Beyond Obedience: Building Trust, Structure & Independence

Bringing a new dog home is about more than teaching commands, it’s about building a relationship. In this expert-led session, professional dog trainer Jacque Boney explores how consistency, structure, and everyday interactions help dogs feel calm, confident, and secure. You’ll learn how relationship-based training supports emotional balance and why these same principles are key to preventing separation anxiety. This class breaks down what separation anxiety really is, why it happens, and how thoughtful training and routines can help dogs feel comfortable even when you’re not home. Designed for both new and seasoned dog parents, this session offers practical insight to help you raise a confident, well-adjusted companion from day one.

Meet the Expert

A Memphis native and the founder of Allegiance Canine, Jacque Bonéy brings over 25 years of all-breed dog training expertise to his craft. His foundation was built shadowing his father, a renowned trainer in the Mid-South for four decades, which allowed Jacque to develop a unique training philosophy that blends classic, tried-and-true techniques with modern, easy-to-apply methods. Since establishing his company in 2007, Jacque has built a reputation for delivering balanced and effective training solutions for clients ranging from first-time pet owners to those seeking advanced working dog skills.

Jacque’s commitment to canine excellence extends deep into the community through the Pawsitive Training Program. In partnership with the Shelby County Division of Corrections and the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County, he facilitates a six-week intensive program that pairs shelter dogs with inmates. This initiative not only provides dogs with a basic obedience foundation to increase their chances of adoption but also teaches participants vital life skills like accountability and responsibility. A leader in his field, Jacque was one of the first individuals to certify as a decoy for K9 Street League, the nation’s first professional working dog sport. Whether he is serving the over 6,900 clients who have passed through his obedience and working dog programs or leading national seminars for fellow professionals, Jacque remains a dedicated student of his craft. His track record of success includes helping thousands of owners achieve their goals, from basic manners to competitive protection sports.
