A Community Call Answered: Hollywood Feed Giving Back in Columbus

At Hollywood Feed, we pride ourselves on being a different breed of pet supply store. Consequently, our commitment to pets doesn’t end when they leave our aisles. Instead, it extends into the heart of the communities we serve.

Recently, we saw a shining example of Hollywood Feed Giving Back. Our team in Columbus, Ohio, stepped up to answer a desperate plea from a local animal rescue. Therefore, we want to share the story of how our staff and customers came together. Ultimately, they made a massive impact for pets in need.

The Desperate Plea

On February 18th, 2026, Columbus Humane put out an urgent call for help. Their Pet Food Pantry at the Essential Care Center needed immediate support. In fact, their supplies had dwindled to critically low levels.

Their message was clear and urgent:

“Special Request! Our Pet Food Pantry at the Essential Care Center is critically low on the following supplies, and we need your help! Right now, we urgently need: Wet Dog Food (any brand) and Cat Litter (any brand). When families face tough times, the Pet Food Pantry helps keep pets in loving homes and out of shelters. A simple donation of food or litter can make the difference between a family staying together or having to make an impossible choice.”

No pet parent should ever have to surrender their best friend simply due to hard times. Hearing this, our local teams knew they had to act immediately.

The heart and hustle of our local store managers and their dedicated teams fueled this tremendous fundraising feat.

Next, we asked how they managed such an incredible turnout. Andrew Hanson, Store Manager of Hollywood Feed in Avery, shared his philosophy on leadership and community support:

“Honestly, it takes dedication to a goal. Set a goal and try your absolute best to make it to the finish line. And if you beat your goal, make a new one.”

Meanwhile, over at the Clintonville location, Store Manager Alexandra Draves saw the drive spark a fun, mission-driven rivalry among her staff:

“My team was very motivated and excited for this. They became competitive amongst each other to see who had the most donations. I also saw a lot of teamwork amongst my team to help each other ask customers or mention the donations we were gathering. It showed how much they love what they do!”

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the Columbus Humane Pet Food Pantry? First, the Pet Food Pantry at the Essential Care Center provides free pet food and supplies to families facing financial hardship. This crucial service helps keep pets nourished and in their loving homes. Therefore, it prevents owners from surrendering them to shelters due to financial constraints.

How can I participate in Hollywood Feed Giving Back events? We host donation drives, round-up events, and adoption days year-round! The best way to participate is to follow your local Hollywood Feed store on social media. Alternatively, you can subscribe to our email newsletter. Lastly, you can simply ask a Feed Team member during your next visit about current local rescue initiatives.

Why were wet dog food and cat litter specifically requested? Generally, people often donate dry kibble in bulk. However, rescues highly seek wet food for senior pets, picky eaters, or pets with dental issues. Furthermore, cat litter is an absolute daily necessity for indoor cats. Unfortunately, it is heavy and can be expensive for families struggling financially. Both are critical for daily pet care. As a result, they are often the first items to run out at food pantries.
