She graduated from Central Carolina Community College in 2013 with an associate degree in veterinary technology, while in attendance she worked as the programs kennel technician. She has a background in general practice, emergency medicine, surgery, and anesthesia. After many years in the realm of oncologic surgery, and realizing her love of teaching, Lara pursued a career at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. For the last four years, she was a clinical technician in the Medical Oncology department at North Caroline State University where she helped shape the future of veterinary medicine and was involved in several ongoing studies. She moved to the Midwest at the beginning of this year to become the Surgical Services Manager at Sirius Veterinary Orthopedic Center. She still pursues higher education in Medical Oncology, Anesthesia, and Surgery. She lives with her Golden retriever and three cats in Omaha. Her 30-year-old mare, Velvet, still resides in North Carolina where she will live out her retirement.
