Puppy and Kitten Neonate Nutrition
Join Dr. Angie Boyer, PhD animal nutritionist and founder of Grain & Grace Consulting, for Puppy and Kitten Neonate Nutrition, an essential course presented in partnership with Hollywood Feed. Designed for pet parents, fosters, and rescuers, this class walks you through the critical first eight weeks of life to ensure young pets grow safely from birth to independent feeding.
You will learn how to navigate each key developmental stage, including the milk replacer and weaning phases, while understanding the specific energy, fat, and hydration needs that build a strong immune system, healthy bones, and early brain function.
Dr. Boyer explains why puppy and kitten nutritional needs are not interchangeable, highlighting why kittens require significantly higher protein and vital amino acids like taurine. You will gain practical, step-by-step guidance on choosing species-specific milk replacers, avoiding dangerous milk substitutes, and mastering proper feeding techniques, such as correct sternal positioning, formula temperature, and nipple flow, to prevent aspiration pneumonia. The class also details how to track daily growth using a gram scale, how to seamlessly transition pets to solid food using a gradual three-step weaning process, and how to identify immediate red flags that signal it is time to call your veterinarian.
